Essential Bouldering Etiquette you Should Practice at a Gym

Have you just started climbing at a local gym? If so, you probably have so much fun, although you feel a bit nervous about not having good manners. Being around good climbers may intimidate you. However, you can always learn proper climbing gym etiquette. Read on to learn this:

Be Aware of your Surroundings

This is something you should do every second when trying to get started with rock climbing montreal in a gym. You must know where you are standing or climbing relative to other climbers. When climbing, look up, down, right and left.  Do this many times to stay aware of your surroundings. This will save you from a lot of embarrassing and dangerous situations. Be a Great Gym Member

  • Learn to take turns. Because there are not set order or timing for when boulders can climb and when to wait in a bouldering gym, you must learn to take turns on the wall. You don’t want to get on a crowded wall. Focus on being aware of the rhythm of other climbers and when the wall seems free before you hop in. You are not doing the activity right if you feel stressed out while climbing. Also, remember to take some rests for optimal performance.
  • Avoid giving unsolicited advice. Figuring out how to do a route is truly fun. In case you have advice for a climber, make sure they want it before you say it. Giving unsolicited advice can annoy climbers who prefer to figure out a route for themselves. Also, this can distract a climber who is on the wall.

  • Help maintain peace at the gym. Climbing is not easy. In some instance, you will have to make a really tough move and yell. Other times, you will go for a hold, miss, and shout out of frustration. This is something you don’t want to develop as a habit. Keep in mind that noises can distract other climbers so minimize your noise.
